The greatest adventure of our lives started in March 2016 when Keagan asked me, Georgie, to be his girlfriend. We were actually at a music festival when that happened, and had only met each-other a month before after matching on Tinder. Yup, we met on Tinder.
At that point Keags was working in industrial refrigeration and I was still studying my undergraduate degree in corporate communications. We made the most of our weekends and planned as many local trips as we could.
We both grew up in Durban, South Africa, with our amazing, supportive families. I was fortunate to have travelled internationally both with my family, and by myself growing up. I lived in Italy for a year when I finished school and have a long bucket-list of adventures. Keags grew up going on camping trips, hiking and worked as an instructor at an outdoor camp for two years when he finished school. He got his first passport stamp soon after we started dating and was quickly bitten by the travel-bug too!
2019 was a hard and tiring year for both of us. I finished my Honours degree in strategic brand communications, and Keags had been a manager working night shift at a food factory. At the end of the year we decided to leave behind work and do something that made us happy. We planned to go work abroad, save up and travel, with the dream of one day running our own lodge. Our plan hasn’t played out exactly how we originally thought it would, but we are traveling, we are happy, and we are still working towards that dream.
Over the past 4 years, we have road-tripped, backpacked, boated, flown and hiked through many big and small adventures, with many more ahead of us. We decided to create a blog which we could one day look back at as a digital adventure journal, and to share our experiences, lessons learnt, and adventures with whoever feels like following along.
Oh, you are probably wondering why we have called our blog “Beans On The Go”. Well, before we had even met, my family had nicknamed me; Beans, and Keagan's nickname was; Bean. So, I guess the “Beans” part was obvious and it only felt fitting to add “on the go” since you know, that’s how we have been living life.
